The vegetable-tanned leather from the ADA collection is raw organic leather that can be vulnerable to scratches. Typically lighter colors are more susceptible to marks than darker colors. A leather conditioner should take care of any marks and will help keep your belt looking its best.
Vegetable-tanned leather uses an ancient method of natural preservation and requires skilled craftsman, resulting in a prestigious, high quality material. It also accounts for the delicious, earthy leather smell. Due to the careful tanning process and natural tannins used, this leather develops a rich and beautiful patina, and gets better with time and use. It does not crack or dry out giving it a very long lifespan. It can initially be stiff and needs time to “break in” to become flexible and achieve that unique, well worn leather look.
ADA Collection Belts was founded in 2008 by Ada Deferrari as a way to make her customers feel beautiful and confident without investing in a new wardrobe. These belts are created in waste reducing small batches from Argentinean leather that is a byproduct of the meat industry. Each belt is handmade using time honored techniques by an Argentinean team of artisans. ADA only uses vegetable-tanned leather which is preserved using natural tannins found in various tree bark, as opposed to the toxic method of chrome-tanned leather which uses chromium salts and creates toxic waste water.
